Dana and Danny’s Backyard Wedding

Dana + Danny hosted the sweetest, most intimate Cape Cod destination wedding this past summer. More than just a wedding, it was a mini-vacation and extended family get-together for them and their 32 guests. They chose to do a backyard wedding by choosing a few rental homes where everyone could stay, and having a tent set up in the backyard of the main rental home. Having the wedding in this location made for such a fun and relaxed day – they literally walked into the backyard and started the celebration. We love planning destination weddings because the bride, groom, and their guests get to spend more time together, instead of just the four or five hours of a traditional wedding reception.

Why Deering Events? The California-based bride and groom only met us in person the week of the wedding! They chose our full-service planning option, and the couple and I worked together long-distance to plan all the details. I secured all vendors, did a site visit for the tent, and was able to do all of my regular planning meetings with Dana and Danny over the phone.

The Vision: Dana + Danny wanted a sophisticated wedding that was still family-friendly. Dana chose the prettiest BHLDN dress that was comfortable to sit, eat, and dance in throughout the night. We did romantic roses and lush greenery on the altar and in the florals. Our favorite part was the beautiful swing that we covered in florals and greenery for photos. For the reception, we did long wooden farmhouse tables, tastefully simple place settings, and – you guessed it – more lush greenery running the length of each table.

The Vibe: Dana + Danny wanted to focus on fun and family. Having everyone stay together in the rental homes was ideal to foster togetherness, and they had a week’s worth of fun events planned. Since it was a destination wedding and everyone was already on vacation, they saved a lot of money by having the wedding on a Wednesday. Another budget-friendly idea? Reusing the tables, chairs, and tents from rehearsal dinner to the wedding the next day. Dana and Danny’ had their sweet daughter and son as the flower girl and ring bearer and Dana’s uncle as the officiant. There were tons of heartfelt family toasts throughout the reception, too. The entire vibe was fun, relaxed, and laid back.

Our Favorite Moments: We loved all the photos on the swing – they were so unique and fun. Dana + Danny snuck away to a local beach for some more photos with Angelina Rose Photography, and we loved that they got a few precious minutes together just after saying, “I Do.” The many toasts at the reception brought everyone to laughter and tears. At the end of the night, we really loved getting to see a wedding planned from afar come together so perfectly.

The Team: Photographer Angelina Rose perfectly captured the day, and we loved getting to work with her. When planning a backyard wedding, your rental company needs to be on point and reliable – and we had the best rental companies in the game helping us get everything set up to perfection.
