Happy engagement season! If you’ve recently said “yes!” to your sweetheart, you’re probably in the early stages of wedding planning. The first thing you should do is check out our recent post on all the things you should think of first when you get engaged. Have your season, ballpark number of guests, and an outline of a total budget? Good! Time to start visiting venues!
The Boston and Cape Cod area has no shortage of beautiful venues. But as any bride will tell you, venue hunting can get exhausting after a while! That’s one of the reasons our full-service wedding planning clients hire us – because we know the ins and outs of all the local venues, and can advise them on the best venues for their vision and budget.
Another thing our clients tell us? They want a unique venue. If all of their friends are getting married around the same time, they don’t want to use the same wedding venues as everyone else. We help find them someplace totally unique.
Here are some of our favorite unique Cape Cod and Boston wedding venues:
Chatham Bars Inn – Cape Cod
We love a Chatham Bars Inn wedding – we did five weddings there in 2018! It’s truly an experience, and has unreal sweeping views of the ocean. They only do one wedding a day, so you’ll have the full attention of the staff.
Destination Wedding Goals: It’s one of the best spots for a Cape Cod destination wedding. The town has the cutest main street, plenty of beaches, and a stunning lighthouse, giving your guests plenty of activities to keep them busy during the wedding weekend.
Full Service, all-in-one: This venue is incredible for couples looking for a luxe experience and an all-inclusive wedding weekend. The Inn can host a rehearsal dinner, welcome drinks, post-wedding brunch, and an after-party all on-site. We love this – it makes everything super easy to plan for the couple, and easy for your guests, too! Our clients love doing an after-party with a bonfire and s’mores at the beach. It also has a spa – perfect for pre-wedding pampering!
Tented Lawn Wedding Option: If you’ve always dreamed of a tented lawn wedding but don’t want to deal with the expense/headache of hosting one at a private residence, the Chatham Bars Inn can host a tented wedding on their gorgeous lawn with views of the ocean.
Ideal for a Cape Cod honeymoon or mini-moon: Honestly, this resort is so gorgeous that you could just stay there for your honeymoon. With delicious food, a luxury spa, beautiful rooms, and the nearby beaches, it’s an ideal spot for a Cape Cod honeymoon or mini-moon.
Lots of Room Options for Guests: Guests can choose to stay in a hotel room or a private cottage – they have lots of options for guests with a range of budgets. At Deering Events, we believe that a destination wedding should give your guests a great experience, and for that a Chatham Bars Inn wedding can’t be beat.
Courageous Sailing Camp – Boston
For Boston brides looking for a unique and super cool venue, Courageous Sailing Camp is IT. Located in the Charlestown Navy Yard, it has sweeping views of Boston and is perfect for the nautical-loving bride and groom.
Perfect for a DIY bride: Their site fee for a wedding in the heart of Boston is very affordable. This venue is a great option for a DIY bride – it has lots of flexibility for making the space your own.
Cool Catering Options: For this venue, you can do anything you want for catering, which is awesome! We love the idea of doing a New England-style lobster dinner, a casual Clambake, a delicious barbecue, a farm-to-table locavore feast, or anything your heart desires.
Perfect for a Boston destination wedding: Located on Pier 4 in Charlestown, it’s super easy to get to by the MBTA Charlestown Ferry. Guests can stay anywhere in the city of Boston and easily get to the venue. Your guests will have the entire city of Boston at their fingertips for your wedding weekend – we definitely recommend putting your favorite spots on your wedding website for them to peruse!
Great views: You can get married on-site, and the views of Boston seriously can’t be beat! Say your “I dos” at sunset and dance the night away with the twinkling lights of the city sparkling across the river.
Tower Hill Botanical Garden – Worcester
If you want a quiet, private, serene venue set among nature, Tower Hill Botanical Garden is perfect. It’s like getting married in your own secret garden.
Unique Historic Beauty: The 18th-century greenhouse is stunning, with exposed brick walls and towering glass cathedral ceilings. Your guests will never have been to a wedding with a reception like this!
Lots of Ceremony and Receptions Options: You can get married in one of their many gardens, and celebrate your reception in the Orangerie conservatory. They always have an inclement-weather backup plan for outdoor ceremonies, so no need to worry. They also only host one wedding a day.
Save Money on Decor: All of their ceremony and receptions sites are replete with flowers, plants, and gorgeous historic details. It gives a really beautiful organic vibe, without having to add a thing. You can do greens and candles on the tables, and guests can enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings and the stars shining through the glass ceiling.
Convenient Location: This beautiful venue is slightly outside of Boston, but still super accessible from NYC, Boston, Logan Airport, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont – basically, anywhere! The good news for guests is that hotel rooms and accommodations will be less expensive in Boylston or Worcester than they’d be in the heart of Boston or Cape Cod during the summer.
Great Staff: We did one wedding there in 2018, and we adored the staff. They were friendly, helpful, and great to work with.
Chequessett Yacht and Country Club – Cape Cod
Chequessett is a special venue for us – Jyl’s own brother got married there! It’s perfect for the DIY bride who wants a casual, relaxed wedding vibe.
Private Beach: Yes, a beach just for you, no random kids running in the background and ruining your wedding photos. You’ll have access to their private beach for your ceremony and photos.
A DIY Venue with Rustic Charm: Get married on the beach, have your cocktail hour in the boathouse, and celebrate your reception in the clubhouse. This relaxed venue has lots of potential to make the space your own. You can make it super casual OR really dress it up with florals and decor – whatever your heart desires.
Classic Cape Cod Wedding Vibes: With views of Wellfleet Beach and a golf course, you’ll have plenty of opportunity for perfect photos. If you have 100 or fewer guests, you can have a seated dinner in the boathouse itself! Definitely a unique wedding experience.
Unique Catering Options: Did someone say “food truck?” At Chequessett, you have endless opportunities for cool catering. We love doing a fun food truck for cocktail hour, fresh seafood for dinner, or even a traditional New England Clambake!
